TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Sen. Jason Brodeur, R-Lake Mary, spoke with Florida’s Voice and highlighted new funding for the education sector and a microchip manufacturing center in Osceola county.

Brodeur outlined funding for new buildings at Seminole State College and called the state budget a “big win” for the school.

“So for Seminole State, who’s only got one outlet, me, to be able to get through and get funded and build on some project successes from last year? I think that was a really big deal,” Brodeur said.

The new Workforce Building B is expected to function as an education center for those studying within the healthcare sector.

“This is an opportunity to acquire a property right next to one that’s already humming along with students, retrofit it, and get it going so that we can continue to produce the health care workers of the next generation,” Brodeur said.

The senator also highlighted $1 million in funding for a new watershed project aimed at cleaning Lake Apopka.

“We want to try and do the same things we did at Lake Apopka with Lake Jessup,” Brodeur said. “And this million dollars is going to be a giant help with that.”

Another item Brodeur was proud to receive funding for was TV personality Sandy Yawn’s maritime instruction academy.

“I was able to sponsor support and get that bill running for her school to help kids who maybe don’t have that traditional career path,” Brodeur said.

Additionally, Brodeur achieved funding for the continued construction of a new packaging center for a micro chip manufacturing facility in Osceola county.

“A piece of that is enhancing our manufacturing bridge. And what we’re doing in Osceola County is really helping diversify central Florida’s economy, which begins and ends with tourism right,” Brodeur said. “And so to help us have another way for us to diversify our economy helps us mitigate those big valleys that come when inevitably the national economy turns.”

DeSantis signed the “Framework for Freedom Budget” earlier this month.
