TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Welcome to Common Sense Conservatives in Florida Politics, highlighting the people statewide delivering wins for the conservative and liberty-loving movement across the Sunshine State over the past week.

For the week of 4.29.24

Wilton Simpson: The agriculture commissioner is actually doing agriculture things, banning fake meat and empowering farmers with the agriculture package signing. The legislation does other things too, like crack down on criminals violating Florida’s commercial farms.

Florida voters really traded up in 2022, in case you’d forgotten.

John Fetterman: Who knew the Pennsylvania Democratic senator had so much common sense by backing Florida’s fake meat ban AND standing with Israel. Eating meat has no party ID.

Corey Simon: The Panhandle state senator voiced off against an “exploratory oil drilling” proposal in the Apalachicola River. Don’t even think about drilling for oil until you bring back our Apalachicola Oysters!

“It is unconscionable that efforts to drill for oil are happening at the same time that we are fighting for the revitalization of the Apalachicola Bay,” he said. “The $25 million we’re trying to fund would allow DEP to enter into financial assistance agreements with the City of Apalachicola to implement projects that improve surface water and groundwater quality within the Apalachicola Bay Area of Critical State Concern, important legislation that I FOUGHT FOR AND PASSED. We cannot allow the actions of one irresponsible body to impact the limited precious natural resources that belong to the entire region.”

YES ON 2: Florida voters will get a chance to enshrine the right to fish and hunt in Florida’s Constitution as God intended – which is about as Florida as it gets.

The campaign, called “YES ON 2,” was launched by leading Florida anglers, hunters and conservationists.

Georgia College Professor John Tures: He wrote the Florida Democratic Comeback Story for the Palm Beach Post, then got rolled by the facts.

Hats off to him for acknowledging the error of his Nikki Fried talking points.

Debbie Mayfield for HD 32: She’s set to be termed out of her Senate seat, but has a pretty strong shot at moving over to the House with the endorsement of former President Donald Trump.

Madison County residents: After weeks of a nail-biting Democratic lead, the county’s residents have seen the light and became the 57th county to embrace the GOP and its common sense conservativism. What’s funnier is the timing – Vice President Kamala Harris visited Florida that same day. Symbolic.

“Kamala steps foot in Florida and another county turns RED!” the Florida GOP said. “Maybe Kamala can explain why Florida Dems are fleeing Biden’s failed policies. A once Blue state now has over 900,000 more registered Republicans than Dems.”

GOP MVP Nikki Fried: The red wave has continued, with there now being over 900,000 more registered Republicans and counting – here’s to the Florida Democratic Party chairwoman never backing down.

The math isn’t looking good for Democrats moving forward either – the GOP lead keeps expanding every month. Could their weekend at Disney World turn things around?

University of Florida: While campuses nationwide have to cancel or delay commencements and are overtaken by pro-Palestine protestors, Florida is business as usual.

No safe spaces for rule breakers – even if you act like a child, you won’t be treated like one.

“This is not complicated: The University of Florida is not a daycare, and we do not treat protesters like children — they knew the rules, they broke the rules, and they’ll face the consequences,” said University of Florida spokesman Steve Orlando.
