TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis announced his appointment of current Sixth District Court of Appeal Judge Meredith Sasso to the Florida Supreme Court.

She will be the seventh woman in the court’s history and third currently serving, her appointment marking the most women serving on the court at the same time in state history.

“I am proud to appoint Judge Meredith Sasso to the Florida Supreme Court because her fidelity to the Constitution will help preserve freedom in our state for generations to come,” DeSantis said. “As a Cuban-American woman who understands the importance of our constitutional system and the rule of law, Judge Sasso will serve our state well.”

Sasso is also a member of the Federalist Society an the American Enterprise Institute Leadership Network.

“I am incredibly honored that Governor Ron DeSantis is entrusting me with this position,” Sasso said. “The judiciary plays a critical and unique role in our constitutional government, and I am resolutely committed to upholding the rule of law for as long as I am privileged to serve.”

Sasso is DeSantis’ fifth appointment to the high court. She is replacing former Justice Ricky Polston, who officially left his post earlier this year.

She is married with two children.

Sasso obtained an undergraduate degree from the University in Florida in 2005 and law degree from the same school in 2008.
