TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis’ political team dropped a new video Monday targeting California and Gov. Gavin Newsom.

The video was themed around the “California exodus” of residents fleeing the state.

In the video, DeSantis said Americans have witnessed a “great American exodus” from states governed by leftist politicians.

“The American people as a whole have voted with their feet, and you compare Florida versus California,” DeSantis said.

“California’s population has dropped by more than a half million people,” a TV anchor said in the video.

“Where has the population gone?” another anchor asked.

The video cited the U.S. Census Bureau’s April 2020 to July 2022 statistics. The video showed a graphic pointing out New York’s approximately 524,000 decrease in population – compared to Florida’s gain of around 706,000. California had a decrease of 508,000.

“We’ve witnessed a great American exodus from states governed by leftist politicians,” DeSantis said in the video.

“This is a result of better governance in states like Florida. It is the result of poor governance in these left-wing states. That’s why people are moving,” he said.

“The debate is already settled. California’s liberal governance is a disaster. @RonDeSantis’ conservative policies have Florida thriving, and would do so for the nation,” the DeSantis War Room said in the video post.

Last week on Fox’s Sean Hannity, Newsom reportedly that, per capita, “more Floridians move to California than California is moving to Florida.”

During a press conference last week, DeSantis told Newsom to stop “pussy footing” around in response to the Democrat offering to compete in a debate with the Florida governor.

Newsom has in the past said he would debate DeSantis, and recently repeated that sentiment.

DeSantis, a 2024 GOP presidential candidate, mocked Newsom for not challenging President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination.

Newsom has been perceived as a rising star in the Democratic Party capable of clinching his party’s presidential nomination in 2024 or 2028.
