TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis continued his trend of denouncing the World Economic Forum, slamming the group for holding an event in China this week.

Tianjin, China is hosting the “Summer Davos” conference, an event where economic and world policy leaders meet and discuss their plans for future global guidelines, regulations and initiatives.

It is centered around “Entrepreneurship: The driving force of the global economy.”

“China is hosting a World Economic Forum meeting this week, which is fitting because both the Chinese Communist Party and the WEF are in lockstep seeking to control people who never elected them,” DeSantis, a GOP presidential candidate, said.

DeSantis is a long-time critic of both the Chinese Communist Party and the World Economic Forum.

Earlier this year, DeSantis railed against the “elite” of Davos, saying they are “weakening western society.”

“They do this thing in Davos, they’re doing it next week, all of these elites come in, the World Economic Forum, and basically their vision is – they run everything and everybody else is like a serf – a peasant. They’re going after energy, ESG and all of these other things,” DeSantis said.

In May, he signed new legislation that targets Chinese Communist Party and other China-linked land ownership, along with their influence in higher education.

“Today we’re really recognizing the threat and we’re taking action and doing measures that no other state has done at this level,” DeSantis said. “I want to thank the legislature for recognizing that we needed to step up and make things happen.”

“We really need to have a unified effort in this country to deter the CCPs ambitions and their influence and part of that is asserting our economic sovereignty.”
