BONITA SPRINGS (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis said policies coming out of the World Economic Forum are “dead upon arrival in Florida” at a Tuesday press conference.

“They do this thing in Davos, they’re doing it next week, all of these elites come in, the World Economic Forum, and basically their vision is – they run everything and everybody else is like a serf – a peasant. They’re going after energy, ESG and all of these other things,” DeSantis said.

The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, held in Davos-Klosters, Switzerland, “shapes global, regional and industry agendas” at the beginning of the calendar year, according to the website.

“You see the Biden Administration wants to nix gas stoves. Are you kidding me? I want gas stoves. Imagine how many people had the hurricane come through, didn’t have power right away but were able to turn on – so you cannot go down this road but that’s exactly what they want to do and it’s really weakening western society, western values,” he continued.

“Underlying a lot of that, is the CCP. Those people are there, they’re elites. Xi [Jinping] is really kind of the puppet behind the curtain on a lot of this stuff […] That type of stuff coming out of Davos? Those policies are dead on arrival in the state of Florida,” he said.

During his press conference, DeSantis said a lot of the supplies during the COVID-19 pandemic were made in China.

“Why would you want to rely on a hostile nation for things that are integral for our quality of life and security, of course you wouldn’t want to do that. This has been going on for many many decades, so disentangling China is something very very significant going forward, ” he said.

The DeSantis Administration previously said they are looking into banning China from purchasing not only farmland but any property in Florida, sources told Florida’s Voice.

He was asked about the issue on Tuesday at the press conference.

“My view is, ok, yeah no farmland, but why would you want them buying residential developments or things like that?” he said.

“The issue is going to be, obviously, if someone comes in and buys, it’s not the CCP that’s signing that, these are holding companies and all that, so you gotta structure that in a way that will effectively police it. We do not need to have CCP influence in Florida’s economy.”

This is not the only time DeSantis has spoken out against China purchasing land.

“From a national security perspective, is that something that we wanna see? And a lot of times, there’ll be companies that will put themselves out as private, but if you peel back the onion a little bit, they’re basically controlled by the [CCP],” DeSantis said.

In September, the DeSantis Administration previously signed an executive order and proposed legislation in an effort to limit regimes like the Chinese Communist Party from obtaining Floridians’ private information.

DeSantis announced a signed executive order that would ban state government entities from procuring tech commodities and services from companies owned and controlled by China and other countries of concern. The other countries include Iran, Russia and Cuba.

“The last thing we want to see is the CCP getting their mitts onto people’s personal information,” DeSantis said.
