TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – In a significant show of support, 15 state legislators from South Carolina announced their endorsement of Gov. Ron DeSantis for the presidency, today.

The endorsements come as DeSantis is set to host an event in the Palmetto State Thursday, his second visit to South Carolina since declaring his candidacy for president.

The South Carolina lawmakers endorsing DeSantis include:

  • State Senator Josh Kimbrell
  • State Senator Dwight Loftis
  • State Senator Rex Rice
  • State Senator Danny Verdin
  • State Representative Gary Brewer
  • State Representative Micah Caskey
  • State Representative Bill Herbkersman
  • State Representative Bill Hixon
  • State Representative Brandon Guffey
  • State Representative Steven Long
  • State Representative Travis Moore
  • State Representative Dennis Moss
  • State Representative Chris Murphy
  • State Representative Roger Nutt
  • State Representative Ashley Trantham

State Sen. Josh Kimbrell called DeSantis “the only candidate in this race who can defeat Joe Biden.”

“Governor DeSantis’ leadership has made Florida a refuge for those seeking freedom in a nation where it is under attack,” Kimbrell said. “No Republican in the country has beaten the radical left more than Governor DeSantis.”

Former President Donald Trump boasts endorsements from a large swath of the South Carolina D.C. delegation, including Sen. Lindsay Graham and Reps. Russell Fry, William Timmons, and Joe Wilson.

Trump also has the endorsement of the South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster.

Among South Carolina’s federal representatives, only a single member of the federal delegation, Rep. Ralph Norman, has chosen to endorse a candidate other than DeSantis or Trump.

Norman is backing Nikki Haley, a former South Carolina governor and the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations in the Trump administration.
