TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis strongly criticized the plea agreement reached between President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and the Department of Justice on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Hunter Biden agreed to plead guilty to two charges related to his failure to pay income taxes and entered into a pretrial agreement regarding the illegal possession of a firearm while being an illicit drug user.

Republicans, including DeSantis, have criticized the deal, arguing that it exemplifies a pattern of Democrats receiving more lenient consequences for their wrongdoing compared to Republicans.

“Looks like Hunter received a sweetheart deal and is not facing any charges on the massive corruption allegations,” DeSantis said in a tweet. “If Hunter was not connected to the elite DC class he would have been put in jail a long time ago.”

Former President Donald Trump, who is facing a 37-count indictment stemming from allegations he mishandled classified documents after leaving office, called the charges against Hunter Biden a “mere traffic ticket.”

“Wow! The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere ‘traffic ticket.’ Our system is BROKEN!” Trump posted on Truth Social.

The deal between the Delaware U.S. attorney and Hunter Biden is expected to resolve the five year investigation into the president’s son and if approved by a judge, he will likely serve no jail time.
