MIAMI (FLV) – U.S. Rep. María Elvira Salazar knocked on the two millionth door Saturday for Republicans this election cycle with 30 days left before the November election.

The Republican National Committee and the Republican Party of Florida launched a joint field operation to reach voters.

During this cycle, Florida Republicans made more than five million voter contacts and made more than 2.8 million phone calls to voters.

“Unlike Florida Democrats, Republicans are working to earn every single vote, taking no single county or voter for granted,” said RNC Spokeswoman Julia Friedland.

Salazar’s constituent, Carolina Castillo, joined her on the campaign trail Saturday. Castillo described herself as a “hardcore” Democrat for nearly three decades before switching to the Republican party earlier this year.

“The problem I have with Democrats is that they say one thing, and they mean another, therefore doing the opposite of what they said,” Castillo told Florida’s Voice in August.

“But in reality they’re all the same. The party is unrecognizable. They’ve all been radicalized,” Castillo said. “So I had to leave. They don’t represent my values.”

The Florida GOP believes Democrats have “failed” to reach out to Hispanics, particularly in South Florida.

Democrat state Rep. Annette Taddeo, who faces Salazar in November, said in July that Hispanic engagement among Democrats is “definitely, across the board, I’d say not enough.”

In September, Gov. Ron DeSantis announced there are 267,000 more Republicans registered than Democrats in Florida.

“We’ve really been, I think, a place where sanity prevailed when the world went mad,” DeSantis said then.

The tide of party registrations has rapidly changed, with Democrats having 257,000 more registered voters than Republicans in 2018. Republicans have made extraordinary gains in registrations since DeSantis took office.
