TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – The Florida Department of Education said newly released school grades for the 2021-2022 academic year exceeded the state’s expectations.

All schools graded an F in 2019 improved their grades in 2022. The Department said one earned a B and six earned a C. 84% of schools graded D and F in 2019 improved their grades in 2022. Here are the school grades.

The department said elementary schools had the largest increase with 20% of them improving one or more letter grades.

469 schools increased their grade in 2022, while 825 schools maintained an A grade and 348 schools maintained a B grade compared to 2019.

“We know that these results are thanks to policies that kept schools open and kept kids in the classroom, which has been widely recognized as critical to student achievement. Today we can celebrate these incredible results, while continuing to support the schools that are struggling,” said Commissioner Manny Diaz, Jr.

Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Florida’s public schools would remain closed for the end of the 2019-2020 school year because of the pandemic. However, the Florida Department of Education became the first state to reopen schools for in-person instruction five days a week during the 2020-2021 school year.

Florida Math Scores Improve and Student Achievement Gaps Narrow

“Less than a year ago, the data showed that nearly 1,500 elementary schools would require additional literacy supports and over 800 schools would likely be placed on the School Improvement Support list,” said State Board of Education Member Monesia T. Brown.

Fifty-three schools exited the School Improvement Support list in 2022. The Bureau of School Improvement Vision monitors and supports low performing schools

“Today, with these results reflecting 168 schools placed on the School Improvement Support list, we are extremely pleased to see our schools rise to the challenge and exceed conventional wisdom.”
