MIAMI – Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power announced his endorsement of Miami-Dade County Commissioner Kevin Cabrera to be the party’s next vice chairman Tuesday.

“Kevin Marino Cabrera is a veteran of Florida politics who I have had the pleasure to work with over the years,” Power said. “I know he will make an excellent long-term partner for helping me build the RPOF into a model for the nation.”

Cabrera is the Miami-Dade county commissioner for District 6 and won his election in 2022 by over 20 points. His term ends in 2026. Former President Donald Trump endorsed him during that election.

Cabrera was also the Florida state director for Donald J. Trump for President and the Republican National Committee in 2020.

In November 2023, Cabrera won the election to be Florida state committeeman in the Republican Party of Miami-Dade County.

Power became chairman earlier in January after the party selected him and ousted former Chairman Christian Ziegler amidst a sexual assault and video voyeurism investigation. Police recently said Ziegler likely did not commit sexual assault, per their investigation, but forwarded documents related to video voyeurism to the state attorney.

The party has undergone a rejuvenation in recent weeks with Power entering the role, also receiving two $100,000 donations from Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson and Senate President-Designate Ben Albritton, R-Bartow.

“Florida is a red state because we have put in the work consistently to ensure conservative leaders who deliver results are supported,” Simpson said. “With Evan’s leadership, I am confident the RPOF and the hardworking grassroots army will execute the fundamentals necessary to win in November, and I am eager to ensure they have the resources they need.”

“We cannot afford to take any election for granted,” Albritton said. “Electing strong conservative leaders at every level of government requires hard work and a dedicated team to drive registration, get out the vote and secure the victory.”
