TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Republican Party of Florida mocked the Florida Democratic Party for “identifying” as an endangered species following the party’s logo change.

The Democrats changed their logo on Sunday to include the face of a Florida panther inside the red, white and blue “D” shape that the party has been identifying with.

The Florida panther is an endangered species.

The Florida GOP humorously argued that the state Democrats, under the leadership of Nikki Fried, have finally “embraced their endangered status” in the logo change.

“First, I would like to congratulate Nikki Fried on, by our count, the 28th relaunch of the Florida Democrats under her leadership,” Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power said. “The choice in changing your mascot from a donkey to a Florida Panther is particularly fitting with its status as an endangered species.”

“If you come into contact with a Florida Democrat in the wild, whether they identify as a donkey or a panther, we urge you to notify Nikki Fried and her team immediately,” Power added. “They’re far-left policies, such as open borders, high inflation, and surging crime, only risk further collapsing Nikki’s voter registration numbers in the state.”

Democrats held a leadership convention over the weekend at Walt Disney World.

The party also went on a social media campaign of posting prominent left-wing voices across the country giving words of encouragement to state Democrats, continuing hopes that Florida is “in play” this November.

Republicans currently lead Democrats in Florida with over 900,000 more registered voters.

No Democrat holds a statewide office seat and Republicans have supermajorities in the legislature.

Gov. Ron DeSantis won reelection in the state’s 2022 gubernatorial race with nearly a 20 point difference.
