TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – At its annual meeting, the Republican Party of Florida tapped Sen. Joe Gruters, R-Sarasota, to be Republican national committeeman for Florida.

“I’m thankful for President Trump’s endorsement and for my fellow party members votes today,” Gruters said. “We are going to get to work on the RNC and we will deliver for President Trump and America in November.”

Gruters is a major ally of former President Donald Trump, and endorsed Trump very early on in the 2024 race, before Gov. Ron DeSantis launched his own bid, later dropping out.

Now entering the membership of the RNC, Trump had reportedly recently floated Gruters’ name as a potential slot to be the RNC’s next chairman.

Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel is reportedly set to resign, and Trump’s immediate favorite, according to the New York Times, was Michael Whatley, the current chair of the Republican Party of North Carolina.

In 2023, Trump endorsed Gruters to be Republican National Committee treasurer. Ultimately, he lost to K.C. Crosbie of Kentucky.

Gruters is a current member of the Florida Senate, and is both the former chairman of the Republican Party of Florida and the Republican Party of Sarasota County.
