FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Floridians have begun to feel mild relief at the pump this holiday season as gas prices have dropped to near $3 per gallon, according to data from AAA.

As of Friday, a regular gallon of gas in the state averaged $3.03. The price was also nearly a quarter cheaper than the national average of $3.27.

Across Florida, lower than average gas costs were predominantly recorded in the heart of the state. Pinellas County, home of St. Petersburg, lists an average of $2.98.

Moving directly east, Hillsborough, Polk, Osceola, and Brevard Counties posted gas prices under $3.00. Pump costs also were low south of Pinellas in Manatee, Sarasota, Charlotte, and Lee Counties.

Miami-Dade County recorded the highest Friday price in the state at $3.71. Neighboring Broward County listed a cheaper $3.10 while Palm Beach County posted a price of $3.22

Florida’s Big Bend and Panhandle regions also listed higher than average gas prices. Drivers could however find relief heading further west towards the Alabama border.

A year ago, Florida gas prices eclipsed $3.41. In addition, average gas prices for mid-grade, premium and diesel as of Friday were all lower from a year ago. Friday’s average also is more than a quarter less than a month ago.

Compared to Florida, California’s average gas price was $4.92 as of Friday. In southern Los Angeles County, the average cost was $5.03.

Often politically competing, California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis are set to debate in a “Red State vs. Blue State showdown Nov. 30. The debate will be moderated by Fox News’ Sean Hannity in Georgia.
