NEW YORK (FLV) – Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis will debate California Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom in a “Red State vs Blue State” standoff on Nov. 30.

Fox News host Sean Hannity will moderate the debate in Georgia at 9 p.m. ET. A specific location for the debate is still to be determined.

The debate will take place as DeSantis vies for the GOP nomination for president.

DeSantis said that the debate with Newsom is “important” for the U.S., and is not about Florida vs California, but about the “future.”

While Newsom is not running for president, the two governors have rivaled each other in political sphere.

DeSantis’ political team dropped a video in June targeting California and Newsom. The video was themed around the “California exodus” of residents fleeing the state.

Over July 4th weekend in 2022, Newsom ran an ad in Florida asking the state’s residents to “join us” in California.

The Florida governor had also previously mocked Newsom for not challenging President Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination.

“What I would tell him is, you know what? Stop pussyfooting around! Are you going to throw your hat in the ring and challenge Joe?” DeSantis said.

Rumblings of a debate between the two amped up over the summer when DeSantis told Newsom to stop “pussyfooting around” in response to the question of whether the debate will happen.

DeSantis agreed to the debate in early August.

“Absolutely. I’m game. Let’s get it done. Just tell me when and where – we’ll do it,” he said.

Newsom was previously interviewed by Hannity, where the host asked Newsom if he would participate in a televised debate.

“I’m all in. Count on it,” Newsom said, agreeing to do a multi-hour appearance with one of his top political rivals.
