DAVENPORT, Iowa (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis is deploying personnel from two state agencies to assist at the scene of a partial building collapse in the city of Davenport, Iowa.

On May 28, a support brace of an apartment building in Davenport gave way, resulting in falling bricks from the six-story structure. Over the past weekend, search efforts led to the recovery of the bodies of three residents from the debris.

In a Twitter announcement, Gov. Ron DeSantis DeSantis stated that Iowa requested help and that he would be deploying personnel from Florida’s emergency management division and the Florida Department of Transportation (DOT) to aid in the ongoing recovery efforts.

“At the request of Iowa, I’ve directed @FLSERT and @myFDOT to deploy personnel to assist in the ongoing recovery in Davenport following the recent building collapse,” DeSantis said. “We are proud to help the people of Iowa.”

These agencies were previously involved in the extensive recovery operations following the collapse of a condominium building in Surfside, Florida in 2021.

In May, DeSantis deployed the Florida National Guard, state troopers and additional assets to assist Texas at the southern border.

The list of support included more than 100 Florida Highway Patrol troopers, 200 Florida Department of Law Enforcement officers and 800 Florida National Guard soldiers.

Other personnel involved included 20 emergency management personnel, such as radio technicians and logisticians, and 20 Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation commission officers.

The governor made a similar move in June of 2021 when he sent personnel and equipment from the the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida Highway Patrol, and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission to the southern border.
