URBANDALE, Iowa – U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., and his wife, Ginger, traveled across Iowa in support of former President Donald Trump over the weekend.

Gaetz, who has endorsed Trump for President in 2024, visited the Team Trump Cedar Rapids Office, met with caucus goers at The Crowbar, spoke to a packed house of supporters in Cedar Rapids, and stopped at Team Trump Iowa Headquarters in Urbandale, according to the Trump campaign.

During remarks to supporters at the “Commit to Caucus” event, Gaetz praised Trump-era policies such as a strong border and talked about the current state of the economy under President Joe Biden.

“Without returning to the Trump era policies, my fear is [that] Joe Biden wants [to] just accelerate the flow of illegal immigrants into the United States of America. So, we have to be willing to say ‘no, our red line is the Trump policies or bust on the border,'” Gaetz said.

He urged Iowans to recruit others to commit to show up during caucus.

“My only worry is low turnout […] I don’t want our fellow patriots thinking, ‘well a caucus is a little different than an election,'” he explained.

The Iowa Caucus will take place on Jan. 15, 2024 at 7:00 p.m. at individual precinct locations in all 99 counties.

The congressman joked that although he is visiting Iowa during the winter, normally Iowa “snowbirds” head to Florida during the winter.

“When you come down to Florida with your with your big 10 sweatshirts on and you go walk on the beach in, like, 50 degree weather, and you get in the water – which is just amazing to us – we assume you’re all part polar bear,” he joked.

Gaetz ended his speech by thanking attendees for supporting Trump.
