MIAMI, Fla. (FLV) – Republican Miami Mayor Francis Suarez filed to run for president in 2024.

He is the third major Floridian to jump in the race for the Republican nomination.

Suarez joins a crowded field of GOP candidates, which includes candidates such as former President Donald Trump, Gov. Ron DeSantis, U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and former Vice President Mike Pence.

The two term mayor previously told Fox News Sunday to “stay tuned” for an announcement.

“It’s one where we talk about what the future of our country should be. It should be a future that creates prosperity, not poverty,” Suarez said.

He is the son of Miami’s first Cuban-born mayor and has reportedly received national attention for his efforts to attract tech companies to the city.

Suarez voted against DeSantis in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial election and former President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential race.

The announcement comes amid concerns about his involvement in a potential $170,000 ethics violation in 2021 and concerns surrounding internal party allegiance.
