DES MOINES, Iowa (FLV) – Republican candidate for the presidency, Nikki Haley, who served as U.N. ambassador under former President Donald Trump, took aim at her former boss and fellow 2024 contender Gov. Ron DeSantis on Sunday for their positions regarding the Russia-Ukraine war.

Haley argued that Ukrainian victory is “in the best interest of our national security.”

“For them to sit there and say that this is a territorial dispute – that’s just not the case, or to say that we should stay neutral,” Haley argued at a CNN town hall in Iowa.

“This is bigger than Ukraine, this is a war about freedom and it’s one we have to win,” Haley said.

During recent town hall events, Trump, who is considered the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination, expressed his desire for the war to come to an end.

He also mentioned his willingness to assist Ukraine and Russia in finding a resolution through negotiations.

When asked who he wanted to win the war at a town hall hosted by CNN in May, Trump said he “wants everybody to stop dying.”

“I don’t think in terms of winning and losing. I think getting it settled so stop killing all these people,” Trump said.

Gov. DeSantis has referred to the war in Ukraine as a “territorial dispute” and an “escalating foreign war.”

“We cannot prioritize intervention in an escalating foreign war over the defense of our own homeland,” wrote DeSantis in a statement earlier this year.
