HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Eduardo Flores, a Republican running for Mayor of Hollywood, detailed his policy proposals Monday in an attempt to become the city’s newest mayor since 2016.

“My campaign focuses on three core pillars: enhancing public safety through community policing and transparency, championing environmental sustainability with initiatives like a city-wide solar utility, communal composting, and driving a responsible development that prioritizes affordable housing, local businesses, and improving public transportation with expanding the current Circuit service,” Eduardo Flores said to Florida’s Voice.

Originally from Chicago, Flores moved to Hollywood in 2019. Since his arrival, he noted being drawn to the city’s vibrant community and incredible potential.

“My parents were born in Mexico and moved to the Chicagoland area. Being from Illinois, I really resonated with Abraham Lincoln. A lot of people think he was a Democrat but he was actually a Republican,” Flores said.

On the coast of Broward County, Hollywood is located between Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Broward’s third largest city with over 150,000 residents, it is home to the Hollywood Beach Boardwalk and nearby Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

Hollywood also might be recognized by fliers and drivers alike by its guitar-shaped casino, which opened as the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in 2019.

Currently, Hollywood is run by Mayor Joshua “Josh” Levy. In 2020, Levy ran unopposed en route to his second term.

Flores’ effort to unseat Levy is joined by Catherine Uden who is also seeking the office this November.

“If I were to speak to an undecided voter, I’d emphasize my commitment to making tangible improvements in Hollywood. I bring fresh, community-focused ideas to the table, from enhancing public safety and implementing sustainable environmental solutions to driving economic development that benefits all residents,” Flores said.

Moreover to the issues, Flores expressed tackling Hollywood’s challenges while being a dedicated problem solver, all while working tirelessly to create positive change for its residents. He specifically pointed to public safety and environmental concerns involving sea level rise.

According to data, Hollywood is listed as being 20% safer than other U.S. Cities. The city specifically has a violent crime rate of 2.33 and 19.15 per 1,000 residents. Overall, Hollywood has a higher property crime rate compared to Florida, but a lower violent crime rate per 1,000 residents.

“While the current administration has made efforts, there’s been a lack of transparency and connection with the community’s real needs,” Flores said. “My opposition seems focused on maintaining the status quo, often favoring a select few over the broader community. I believe in a government that serves everyone, not just the privileged.”

Flores added, “I’m committed to being a mayor who listens, acts with integrity, and remains uncorruptible, always putting the people of Hollywood first.”

Hollywood’s municipal election is scheduled for November 5, 2024.

“With a fresh perspective and a genuine desire to serve, I’m confident that my leadership will bring about the positive change our city deserves,” Flores said.
