MIAMI (FLV) – Republican State Sen. lleana Garcia was endorsed by the Florida Nurses Association Monday as she runs for re-election to represent District 36.

“I cherish the opportunity to continue to do the work, to represent and provide for my beloved community,” Garcia announced.

Garcia was the first Hispanic female Deputy Press Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security. She also worked for radio and television outlets as a reporter and program director in the Miami market.

Garcia also takes care of her elderly parents, grandparents and extended family in South Miami. One of the main accomplishments on her website includes her support for the “No Patient Left Alone Act.”

The Democrat in this race is Raquel Pacheco who served in the Connecticut Army National Guard and worked as a small business owner.

Garcia’s individual account has raised $260,578 in campaign contributions and spent $56,000, according to campaign finance records. Pacheco has raised $61,503 and spent $12,769.
