WASHINGTON, D.C. (FLV) – In a Wednesday vote, the House of Representatives rejected a censure proposal put forth by the GOP to admonish Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif.

By a vote of 225-196, the House tabled the resolution brought forward by Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., to censure Schiff.

Republicans sought to admonish and fine the congressman due to his involvement in a previous House investigation pertaining to Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign.

Twenty republicans, along with Democrats, united in tabling Luna’s proposal, effectively preventing a vote on the censure resolution itself. Notably, two Republicans and five Democrats opted to vote present.

Schiff called the failed vote a “badge of honor” that he “will wear proudly.”

“MAGA Republicans are going after me because I dared to hold Donald Trump accountable,” Schiff said in a tweet. “These efforts to intimidate me will not succeed. I will always defend our democracy.”

Luna and Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., went back and forth on Twitter, with the Kentucky congressman calling the proposed censure’s fine of $16 million “shortsighted.”

“Allowing a majority of Congress to take $16 million (92 years of pay) from any member of Congress is shortsighted,” Massie said in a tweet. “Can we not imagine a time when this precedent would be used against conservatives?”

Luna responded, saying Massie was “making misrepresentations about the bill” and that it could be paid with campaign funds.

“It’s a suggested fine that can be paid with campaign funds, like any other fine levied by Ethics, Luna added in a tweet. “Again, this is not the same case as your’s and Pelosi’s.”

But in a later tweet, said she would refile a modified version in which Schiff is referred to the Ethics Committee for investigation.

“20 Republicans voted w/ Dems to stop the ethics investigation, censure, & fine of Adam Schiff,” Luna said. “So there is no confusion (as some did not accurately read the bill) I will be filing a privileged motion to censure & send Schiff to ethics for investigation. See you next week Adam.”

Massie said that he would support the updated version of Schiff’s censure, which is expected to be considered next week.

“Thank you for removing the part that several of us thought was unwise and/or unconstitutional,” Massie tweeted. “Many of us are looking forward to voting for your better version.”
