WASHINGTON, D.C. (FLV) – The U.S. House of Representatives approved Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna’s revised attempt to censure Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., in a 213-209 vote.

Luna attempted to pass a different censure resolution last week, which would have included a suggested $16 million fine be levied upon Schiff, but failed after 20 Republicans joined Democrats in opposition of the fine.

The newly approved resolution alleged that Schiff, while serving on the House Intelligence Committee, intentionally misled the public regarding alleged collusion between former President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia during a congressional investigation.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., faced a chorus of Democratic shouts of “shame” directed at the Republican side of the floor as he made repeated efforts to restore order among the members.

Shortly thereafter, Schiff was officially censured and referred to the House Committee on Ethics for further investigation.

Luna accused Schiff of pushing “baseless distortions” against Trump.

“Adam Schiff launched an all-out political campaign built on baseless distortions against a sitting U.S. president at the expense of every single citizen in this country,” Luna said on the House floor.

Schiff called the resolution censuring him a “falsehood.”

“You who are the authors of a big lie about the last election must condemn the truth tellers, and I stand proudly before you,” Schiff said on the floor of the House. “Your words telling me that I have been effective in the defense of our democracy and I am grateful.”

The resolution makes Schiff the 25th House member to be censured in the history of the United States.
