Poll: Pluralities Believe Sending Migrants to Liberal States ‘Appropriate’

MARTHA’S VINEYARD (FLV) – According to a new Morning Consult poll, 42% of voters said it was appropriate for Republican governors to move immigrants from border states to more liberal states, while 41% said it was inappropriate and 17% said they had no opinion or didn’t know.

The poll asked, “Republican governors from states along the U.S.-Mexico border have been sending thousands of migrants to liberal states and cities in the U.S. Would you consider Republican governors sending migrants to liberal U.S. states and cities to be?”

Data shows 46% of white people and 41% of hispanic people say the moves are “appropriate.”

39% of white people and 35% of hispanic people said the moves are “inappropriate,” while 16% of white people and 25% of hispanic people said “don’t know/ no opinion.”

31% of black people said the moves were “appropriate” and 48% said they were “inappropriate” while 24% of those listing their ethnicity as “other” said it was “appropriate” and 47% said “inappropriate.”

This poll was conducted between Sep. 16 and Sep. 18, 2022 among a sample of 2,005 registered voters.

The interviews were conducted online and the data were weighted to approximate a target sample of registered voters based on gender by age, educational attainment, race, marital status, home ownership, race by educational attainment, 2020 presidential vote, and region.
