NAPLES, Fla. – Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott said Thursday that his Naples home had been “swatted” Wednesday night.

“Last night, while at dinner with my wife, cowards “swatted my home in Naples,” Scott said. “These criminals wasted the time & resources of our law enforcement in a sick attempt to terrorize my family.”

Under Florida Statute, it is illegal to make a false report to law enforcement authorities, a practice referred to as falsely “swatting.” The criminal act is punishable by misdemeanor with severer penalties for repeat offenders.

Florida’s junior U.S. senator since 2019, Scott’s main Democratic challenger is Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, who’s looking to face off against him in November.

Scott further thanked local authorities for responding to the incident.

“Ann and I want to thank @NaplesPolice & @CollierSheriff for all they do to keep us safe,” Scott said.
