WASHINGTON, D.C. – Florida Republican Sens. Rick Scott and Marco Rubio slammed President Joe Biden for the government’s swift creation of a security fence around the Capitol building for Thursday’s State of the Union Address despite additional measures being needed at the southern border.

“Remember this when @POTUS talks about the border tonight,” Scott said. “Biden doesn’t hesitate to put a barrier up for his speech in Washington but refuses to build a wall and secure the southern border.”

“They claim a border wall to protect America is racist & immoral,” Rubio said. “But it took them less than 12 hours to put up a fence around the Capitol to protect themselves at tonight’s [State of the Union address].”

Border crossings recently reached a new record for December 2023.

Biden’s State of the Union Address on Thursday is the last of his first presidential term. He is set for a rematch against former President Donald Trump, both with clear paths to their respective parties’ nomination.

The president is speaking at 9 p.m. ET.
