PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – Florida Republicans picked up another voter advantage with St. Lucie County flipping from Democrat to Republican.

“Congratulations to the Republican Party of St. Lucie County for becoming the latest county to flip red,” said Evan Power, vice chairman of the Republican Party of Florida. “Great work Chairman Kenny Nail, SCM Anthony Bonna, and SCW Mary Ann Rusell.”

As of Monday, Republicans amassed over 82,000 voters in St. Lucie County to just under 80,700 for Democrats, according to the county supervisor of elections. The area also holds 59,000 independent voters and 6,000 other voters for an approximate total of 228,000.

St. Lucie County is located on Florida’s southeastern coast.

While officially flipping red, St. Lucie County has sided with Republicans in recent elections. The region overwhelmingly voted for Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis over Democratic candidate Charlie Crist by more than 19% in 2022.

St. Lucie County also mirrored the state with DeSantis defeating Crist by 19 points.

Furthermore, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., defeated Democratic candidate Val Demings in St. Lucie County by over 16% in 2022. Rubio also won by a similar percentage statewide.

In the general election, former President Donald Trump carried St. Lucie County by 1.6% over Joe Biden in 2020. Trump also won statewide over Biden by more than 3%.

Republicans have accumulated a nearly 700,000 vote advantage over Democrats in Florida, according to the Florida Division of Elections.

St. Lucie County’s shift red comes after state Democrats launched a “Take Black Florida” tour in August 2023.
