Trump says DeSantis is ‘unelectable,’ praises Tim Scott’s 2024 challenge
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (FLV) – In response to Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., entering the 2024 presidential race, former President Donald Trump called Gov. Ron DeSantis “unelectable” and wished Scott “good luck.”
“Good luck to Senator Tim Scott in entering the Republican Presidential Primary Race,” Trump said. “It is rapidly loading up with lots of people, and Tim is a big step up from Ron DeSanctimonious.”
“[DeSantis] is totally unelectable,” he said. “I got Opportunity Zones done with Tim, a big deal that has been highly successful. Good luck Tim!”
Scott slammed President Joe Biden for overseeing a “retreat” from “patriotism and faith” at his announcement.
The South Carolina senator was endorsed by the former president in 2021 for 2022 reelection, which he won.
“It is my great honor to give Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina my complete and total endorsement,” Trump said at the time. “He is both an outstanding senator and person who works tirelessly for the people of his great state, and the USA. Strong on the military, law enforcement, loves our vets, protects our Second Amendment and our borders. Tim will continue to do an OUTSTANDING job for our country!”
The 2024 field continues to grow on the Republican side, with more expected to announce in the coming weeks, including a potential announcement from DeSantis this coming week.
Last week, Trump continued attacks on DeSantis, pointing to COVID-19 policy and saying former Democrat New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo handled coronavirus deaths better.
“How about the fact that he had the third most deaths of any State, as Governor, on the China Virus. Even Cuomo did better,” Trump said on TRUTH Social.
