WASHINGTON, D.C. (FLV) – In a series of rulings that signal a notable shift in the court’s dynamics, justices appointed by former President Donald Trump handed conservatives several victories this term.

With the appointment of three justices during Trump’s term as President, the current Supreme Court now boasts a perceived “conservative” majority of 6-3, enabling it to exert its influence on embattled issues.

On Thursday, the Supreme Court dealt a major blow to affirmative action and ruled that colleges and universities are prohibited from directly factoring in race during their admissions process.

In a subsequent ruling, the Supreme Court invalidated President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness initiative, asserting that the administration had overstepped its authority by proposing a program that aimed to eliminate about $400 billion in debt.

In addition to the seismic Dobbs decision a year ago, which overturned the constitutional right to abortion established in Roe v. Wade, the court also handed religious liberty advocates a major win.

On Friday, the Supreme Court affirmed the right of a Christian website designer in Colorado to decline designing websites that celebrate same-sex marriages.

Trump praised the justices at a rally in Pickens, South Carolina and said that they had ruled to “move our country forward with a merit-based system of education.”

“We’re going by merit,” Trump said during his speech. “We’re back to the old merit system that built our country.”

Trump also called the ruling on Biden’s student loan forgiveness program “amazing.”

“It would be very unfair to the millions and millions of people who have paid their debt through hard work and diligence,” Trump said.

Biden expressed his displeasure with the Supreme Court’s rulings and called it “not a normal court.”

“We cannot let this decision be the last word,” Biden said regarding affirmative action. “While the court can render a decision, it cannot change what America stands for.”

Trump’s chief primary opponent, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, has said in recent weeks that he would “do better” than the former president when it come to Supreme Court justice picks.

“I mean, I respect the three appointees he did, but none of those three are at the same level of Justices Thomas and Justice Alito,” DeSantis said in a radio show interview.

Trump hit back at his rival in a statement released by his campaign, calling the governor’s statement “bizarre” because of DeSantis’s initial support for the justices’ confirmations at the time.

“Ron’s latest flip-flop has left many wondering if he tripped in his high-heel boots and hit his head or is simply hallucinating from his disastrous event in Oklahoma last weekend,” the statement read. “He seems to have forgotten countless statements he made in the past praising President Trump’s nominations.”
