WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (FLV) – Former President Donald Trump celebrated the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on Thursday, which dealt a major blow to affirmative action.

The ruling prohibits colleges and universities from considering race in their respective admissions processes.

The court reviewed two admissions cases from Harvard and the University of North Carolina, ultimately deciding that the policies violate the Equal Protection Clause of the Constitution in a 6-2 and 6-3 vote, respectively.

Trump, who appointed three of the six justices that voted to overturn previous court precedent, called the ruling “amazing.”

“This is a great day for America. People with extraordinary ability and everything else necessary for success, including future greatness for our Country, are finally being rewarded,” Trump said in a Truth Social post. “This is the ruling everyone was waiting and hoping for and the result was amazing.”

Trump also stated his belief that the ruling will make the country more “competitive” with the rest of the world.

“It will also keep us competitive with the rest of the world,” Trump said. “Our greatest minds must be cherished and that’s what this wonderful day has brought.”

Trump’s chief opponent in the 2024 Republican primary, Gov. Ron DeSantis, also agreed with the ruling.

“College admissions should be based on merit and applicants should not be judged on their race or ethnicity,” DeSantis said in a tweet. “The Supreme Court has correctly upheld the Constitution and ended discrimination by colleges and universities.”
