Biden campaign opens first Florida office in Hillsborough County: report
TAMPA, Fla. – President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign opened its first Florida office in Hillsborough County, reinforcing their belief that the state is winnable in 2024.
Axios and the Tampa Bay Times reported the news following the president’s visit to the state on Tuesday, where he advocated for increased abortion access and the return of Roe v. Wade.
“Florida is ground zero in the fight for our rights and fundamental freedoms, and we’re not taking anything for granted,” said the campaign’s Florida director, Jasmine Burney-Clark, according to the Times.
Vice President Kamala Harris has also announced a trip to Florida, planning to hit Jacksonville to talk more about the topic of abortion.
Following the placement of an amendment on the state’s 2024 ballot enshrining abortion into the Florida Constitution, Democrats have argued that the Florida is now “winnable.”
“Florida is only winnable if we do the work,” Florida Democratic Party Chairwoman Nikki Fried said on social media.
Former President Donald Trump won the state in 2020 by a little over 3%.
Hillsborough County has been trending in favor of Republicans, with Democrats now narrowly holding an advantage over Republican voters there by just over 1%.
Since then, the Republican Party of Florida has increased voter registration, ultimately surpassing the formerly held Democratic plurality. The party now has nearly 900,000 more registered voters than the Democrats do in the state.
