TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Republican Party of Florida is heading into the 2024 election season with an ever-increasing voter registration lead, which is now approaching the 900,000 mark, according to data compiled by Florida’s Voice.

As of April 4, registered Republicans lead Democrats by 889,569 voters.

While the Republicans’ lead expanding has been an increasingly common tale since the end of the coronavirus pandemic, Democrats have been hoping for a swing in momentum as the presidential election year continues.

However, signs remain worrying – despite presidential years typically resulting in more enthusiasm across the aisle, Democrats are still losing voters.

Just since March, Democrats have lost just over 1,000 voters – while Republicans have gained over 30,000.

Republicans are close to flipping two counties red as well. Hillsborough is only 0.98% in the Democrats’ favor, a margin of 8,064 votes.

Meanwhile, Madison county is 1.14% in Democrats’ favor – just 134 voters. Both counties have been steadily trending Republican.

As of April, Republicans outnumber Democrats in 56 of 67 counties – which soon could become 58, if and when Madison and Hillsborough flip.

Aside from those two locations, Duval could be the next GOP domino, only in the Democratic column by 2.67%.

Miami-Dade, a massive population center of Florida that went for Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2022, is also moving Republican, now within 4.77%.

The final single-digit “blue” county is Palm Beach, which leans Democratic in registration by 6.18%.

After a recent Supreme Court of Florida ruling permitting abortion ballot access – and upholding the state’s 15-week abortion ban, setting the stage for the six-week ban to take effect – Democrats became more hopeful November will be more competitive.

While Democrats predict abortion will turn out younger, left-leaning voters, Republicans enter the 2024 election with a strong base of newly registered Republicans that could help combat Democratic enthusiasm at the ballot box.

The GOP’s strong registration efforts come under new Republican Party of Florida Chairman Evan Power, who has not only overseen recent local electoral flips in blue areas, but a cash influx from major state leaders.
