TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida-based country singer Billy Dean released a song Wednesday titled “Never Back Down,” a nod in favor of Gov. Ron DeSantis’ 2024 candidacy.

The music video opens with chants of “USA!” and appearances of DeSantis at Florida and out-of-state events.

“If you’ve had enough of the same old crowd, and you want to rise up, well the time is now,” Dean sings.

“You’ve got to stand your ground, and if you still believe in the American dream, then never back down,” the song says.

Fox News first reported on the song’s release.

Dean told Fox he’s a “Florida native and a resident who has lived the American dream.”

“My dad served in WW2 and lost 2 brothers Harold Mason Dean and Robert Lloyd Dean to the cause,” Dean said. “They sacrificed their dreams so I could live mine. My dad did not want me to serve the country with guns and bullets but I can serve with my pen, paper, and guitar.”

Dean said DeSantis is not only the governor of Florida, but “America’s Governor.”

“He inspired me to write and record a song as a message to all those who put power and party above country, you won’t get away with it without a fight,” Dean said. “I owe it to our Veterans to NEVER BACK DOWN.”

The song, which shares the name of a super PAC backing DeSantis, comes nearly two years after the Van Zant brothers released “Sweet Florida.” That song came out in support of DeSantis’ 2022 gubernatorial reelection.
