DeSantis Allows Emergency Prescription Refills, Waives Weight Restrictions on Trucks, Preparing for Hurricane Ian
TALLAHASSEE (FLV) – As now-Hurricane Ian approaches Florida’s west coast, Gov. Ron DeSantis is taking steps to ensure Floridians are prepared for the potentially life-threatening storm.
At a press conference, DeSantis said he waived weight restrictions for commercial trucks “to ensure ample fuel and resources are coming” into the state, along with waiving state requirements on filling prescriptions to permit 30-day emergency refills for medications.
“The path of this is still uncertain,” DeSantis said. “As this goes, there will be more clarity. They have nudged it further west, but just because the path is in one place, that’s not to say there can’t be a curvature back into the peninsula,” he said Sunday. As of Monday morning, the models have shifted back eastward, projecting the eye wall of the storm to be closer to the Tampa Bay area.
“Listen to your local officials and heed [evacuation] warnings,” he continued.
DeSantis declared in initial state of emergency in some of Florida’s counties late last week, but soon extended it to the entire state.
The governor is set to address the state at 11AM Monday for more updates.
