TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Florida leaders reacted to the news of Vice President Kamala Harris visiting Florida Friday prior to her speech about Florida’s new African American school standards.

Florida Republican Party Chairman Christian Ziegler said Harris’s visit to Florida is another “political stunt” and wants other states to join Florida by telling the Biden Administration to “go pound sand.”

Harris spoke in Jacksonville on Friday afternoon.

“They[Florida leaders] want to replace history with lies,” Harris said. “Middle school students in Florida, to be told that enslaved people benefited from slavery. High schoolers may be taught that victims of violence of massacres were also perpetrators.”

The vice president said these “extremist so-called leaders should model what we know to be the correct and right approach if we really are invested in the well being of our children.”

“Instead, they dare to push propaganda to our children. This is the United States of America, we’re not supposed to do that,” Harris said.

Gov. Ron DeSantis said Democrats like Harris “have to lie about Florida’s educational standards to cover for their agenda of indoctrinating students and pushing sexual topics onto children.”

“Florida stands in their way and we will continue to expose their agenda and their lies,” DeSantis said.

“Instead of visiting the border and stopping the millions of illegal aliens and fentanyl pouring across our border, The Border Czar has hopped on the first flight down to Florida in order to lecture Floridian parents that their children belong to the government and the government has a right to indoctrinate and sexualize our children,” Ziegler said.

Ziegler said the “government overreach on parental rights has already been overwhelmingly rejected in Florida,” and he hopes the other 49 states will “join with [Florida] by telling the Biden Administration to go pound sand.”

The statement from the GOP pointed to data showing millions of illegal immigrants have crossed the border since Biden took office.

Fentanyl is now the number one killer of Americans ages 18-45. The Drug Enforcement Administration announced they seized more than 379 million deadly doses of fentanyl in 2022, which is enough to kill everyone in the U.S.

DeSantis deployed support to the southern border with Mexico to help quell the border crisis in May.

“The impacts of Biden’s Border Crisis are felt by communities across the nation, and the federal government’s abdication of duty undermines the sovereignty of our country and the rule of law,” DeSantis previously said.

“While Biden ignores the crisis he created, Florida stands ready to help Texas respond to this crisis,” he said.

The Biden administration recently announced new enforcement measures to increase security at the border.
