TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis’ new book, “The Courage to be Free,” which launched Feb. 28, reportedly eclipsed 94,000 sales in its first week, outselling books from former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton before their respective presidential runs.

NPD BookScan data obtained by Business Insider found that DeSantis’ new release sold 94,300 copies during the first week, including preorders.

According to Business Insider, Clinton’s “Hard Choices” about her experience during the Obama administration sold 86,200 copies in its first week, releasing in June 2014.

Barack Obama, who was at the time a senator, released “The Audacity of Hope” in September 2006, and it saw 67,500 sales during the first week.

Donald Trump’s pre-campaign book was “Crippled America,” released in November 2015, and it saw 27,687 first-week sales.

DeSantis’ book shot up to a number one New York Times and Amazon best seller shortly after its release late last month.

The governor kicked his book tour off in Venice, Florida, and then traveled across the state and across the country, from Texas to California.

DeSantis’ publisher is HarperCollins. The new book is vastly more popular than his 2011 book, “Dreams from Our Founding Fathers,” which reportedly only sold 125 copies through July 2022.

“No American leader has accomplished more for his state than Governor Ron DeSantis. Now, he reveals how he did it,” the book description said. “This book is a winning blueprint for patriots across the country. And it is a rallying cry for every American who wishes to preserve our liberties.”

The book covers key moments in his life, like growing up in a working-class family, playing in the Little League World Series, education at Yale and Harvard, volunteering for the Navy after 9/11, serving in Iraq, his family, and insight into his thinking when grappling with COVID-19 restrictions, Critical Race Theory, ‘woke’ companies, and “legacy media.”

“What Florida has done is establish a blueprint for governance that has produced tangible results while serving as a rebuke to the entrenched elites who have driven our nation into the ground. Florida is proof positive that we, the people are not powerless in the face of these elites,” DeSantis wrote.
