JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis attacked the U.S. Senate for altering its dress code to allow casual attire in the chamber during session.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s, D-N.Y., decision to changed the policy allows for Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., to wear his commonly-seen hoodies and basketball shorts on the Senate floor.

The governor said Fetterman has “a lot of problems” and wears “sweatshirts, and hoodies, and shorts.”

“To show up in the United States Senate with that, and not have the decency to put on proper attire, I think it’s disrespectful to the body,” DeSantis said.

He said that it speaks “very poorly” of the senate to accommodate for the outfits worn by the senator.

“We need to be lifting up our standards in this country, not dumbing down our standards in this country,” he added.

“I dress like he campaigns,” Fetterman said in response to DeSantis’ comments.

The governor added that Fetterman has “a lot of problem,” relating to multiple health concerns during his campaign and as an elected senator

Fetterman suffered from a stroke in 2022, hindering his ability to coherently communicate during campaign events and fundraisers.

The senator was hospitalized again in February and given treatment for depression at George Washington University’s Hospital in Washington, D.C.

The former lieutenant governor won with a 260,000 vote difference against TV personality Mehmet Oz in the 2022 Pennsylvania U.S. Senate election. The victory flipped the seat blue after previously being held by Republican Pat Toomey.
