TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (FLV) – Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign boasted of the governor visiting eight Iowa counties in “just two days” over the weekend.

Those counties DeSantis visited include Webster, Hamilton, Boone, Story, Marshall, Madison, Warren and Polk.

DeSantis was joined by First Lady Casey DeSantis in speaking to Iowans at Olde Boston’s Restaurant and Pub in Fort Dodge on Friday.

That same day, the Florida governor met with Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig to tour a biorefining plant in Jewell. He then participated in a roundtable with other agriculture producers and leaders.

The campaign slammed “Joe Biden’s suffocating regulations, which have hurt farmers in Iowa and across America.”

DeSantis’ Iowa campaign swing came as he delivered remarks at the Family Leadership Summit with Tucker Carlson Friday evening.

Saturday, DeSantis hosted a meet and greet with Iowa Senate President Amy Sinclair and Iowa voters. He then met with “35 pastors and faith leaders” in Indianola.

To end his Iowa weekend visit, the governor headlined Iowa Republican U.S. Rep. Zach Nunn’s “Salute to the Troops BBQ.”

DeSantis has been targeting Iowa, the first state that will send party members to vote on the GOP presidential nominee in January 2024.

Candidates typically target early states because performing well in those can signify electoral momentum and viability to voters in later primary elections, elected officials for endorsements, and potential donors.

Facing nationwide and other state-level polling deficits to former President Donald Trump, DeSantis’ campaign has targeted early states like Iowa and New Hampshire.
