Florida DBPR gains new chief of staff, senior level officials

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation announced three new senior staff members on Thursday.

The agency is led by Secretary Melanie Griffin, who was appointed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in 2021.

The DBPR’s prime functions include licenses and regulations for businesses in Florida.

Jared Ochs is joining as the agency’s chief of staff.

He was most recently the deputy chief of staff in the Office of the Secretary at the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice.

He was previously the director of communications and external affairs at the state Department of Education. Other past positions include being the assistant deputy chancellor of public schools, and the director of legislative affairs in the office of the commissioner.

Ochs went to the University of South Florida, where he obtained a masters degree in public administration. He additionally received Pasco Sheriff’s Office Citizen’s Service Award.

Emilie Oglesby is joining as the deputy secretary of business regulation.

She was previously at the state’s Department of Commerce. There, she was the assistant deputy secretary of workforce services, and had managed teams at the Division of Workforce Services.

Oglesby was also the external affairs manager for the State Board of Administration, the investment body for Florida. She additionally worked in communications at the Department of Economic Opportunity. She went to Auburn University.

Other past experience includes serving as the executive director of the Monroe County, Alabama Chamber of Commerce.

Jared Williams is joining as the deputy secretary of professions.

Williams was most recently in DeSantis’ office, where he was the assistant deputy chief of staff.

He has been in DeSantis’ executive office for years. In the past, he was the deputy director of communications, budget and policy analyst, and environmental policy chief.

Williams attended Florida State University, where he garnered a Masters of Science in Applied American Politics and Policy.
