WASHINGTON (FLV) – After the U.S. Senate passed the ‘Inflation Reduction Act,’ a massive spending package dealing with climate change, healthcare, and tax raises for working Americans, Florida Democrats indicated their support.

“The Inflation Reduction Act will bring down energy costs and create great new jobs by fighting climate change. It’s our future, let’s fight for it,” U.S. Rep. Val Demings said.

“Senate PASSED landmark #InflationReductionAct yesterday!” U.S. Rep. Darren Soto Tweeted.

U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor said, “Thanks to @HouseDemocrats passing the #LowerFoodandFuelCostsAct AND the #InflationReductionAct, gas prices have declined for more than 50 days straight, saving families with two cars $90 a month on average.”

The passage of the bill in the Senate comes as the United States entered a “technical recession” as GDP fell 0.9% for the second consecutive quarter.

According to a report from the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, the Democrat proposal will increase taxes on “millions of Americans.”

The Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT), nonpartisan, found that under federal taxes with the Democrats’ plan, those making under $10,000 will see a tax increase of 0.3%.

The report also found that taxes will increase around $16.7 billion on Americans earning under $200,000.

Julia Friedland, Florida communications director for the Republican National Committee, said that “Florida Democrats support raising taxes during a recession.”

“While Republicans’ pro-growth tax reform in 2017 reduced tax rates for all Americans in a way that increased the progressivity of the tax code and produced historic gains in job and wage growth, the Democrats’ approach to tax reform means increasing taxes on low- and middle-income Americans to fund their partisan Green New Deal,” U.S. Senate Finance Committee Ranking Member Mike Crapo, R-Idaho, said.

“Americans are already experiencing the consequences of Democrats’ reckless economic policies.  The mislabeled ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ will do nothing to bring the economy out of stagnation and recession, but it will raise billions of dollars in taxes on Americans making less than $400,000.”

Presently, prices are still rising, with inflation jumping 9.1% in June.
