WASHINGTON, D.C. – Florida Republican members of Congress are signing their names behind a federal effort to abolish the U.S. Department of Education, the most recent being Cory Mills.

Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie filed the bill, HR 899, in 2023.

Republicans from Florida who signed on last year include Matt Gaetz, Bill Posey, Byron Donalds and Anna Paulina Luna.

Most recently on Friday, Mills signed onto Massie’s legislation.

“The Department of Education shall terminate on December 31, 2023,” the bill text reads.

It has made no progress, however – only being introduced and referred to one committee in the House last February.

The bill has a total of 30 cosponsors.

“Thank you Thomas [Massie] for this much needed step to educational freedom and shrinking of federal government,” Mills said on Monday.

“Let’s get back to state & individual Rights as intended under our 10th Amendment, empowering parental rights, and reduce the size and overreach of federal government,” he said.
