Luna to file ‘SCHUMER Act’ requiring members of Congress fight in war they advocate for
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Florida Republican Rep. Anna Paulina Luna is moving forward with her vow to file federal legislation requiring members of Congress fight on the “front lines” of Ukraine if they support calls to send American troops to the region for conflict.
Luna reacted to a report by the Daily Mail, who said they obtained a copy of her bill, called the “SCHUMER Act.”
“I make no apologies,” Luna said. “My bill, the SCHUMER Act, would require Members of Congress to fight on the front lines in Ukraine if they support Schumer’s calls for American sons & daughters to fight.”
According to the Daily Mail, members of Congress vouching for sending the U.S. military to Ukraine to battle Russia would have to serve at least six months active duty “in support of a contingency operation.”
The Florida Republican starkly criticized recent comments by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., that American troops could be sent to fight a war with Russia if the U.S. doesn’t coalesce behind more aid to Ukraine.
“If we don’t aid Ukraine, Putin will be walk all over Ukraine, we will lose the war,” Schumer said. “We could be fighting in eastern Europe in a NATO ally in a few years. Americans won’t like that.”
He also said “humanitarian aid” must be sent to Gaza in Hamas’ war with Israel.
The recent proposed spending package for border security included tens of billions of dollars for aid to foreign countries, the largest sum being $60 billion to Ukraine.
“In honor of Chuck Schumer, I’ll be introducing a bill that will require any politician who advocates for sending American troops to Ukraine to be required to fight on the front lines with them,” Luna said this week.
