NAPLES, Fla. (FLV) – Florida Republicans are reacting ahead of former President Donald Trump’s anticipated arraignment in Manhattan Tuesday.

U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., said when voters look at “this mockery of our criminal justice system and consider Biden’s abysmal presidency,” he believes Trump will “assume the presidency again.”

Former President Donald Trump is expected to surrender and be arraigned on criminal charges stemming from 2016 hush money payments. The exact charges have not yet been revealed.

“What we don’t do in America is turn the criminal justice system against a political opponent. When voters look at this mockery of our criminal justice system and consider Biden’s abysmal presidency, former President Trump will assume the presidency again as the 47th POTUS,” Donalds said.

The former president previously called the indictment a “witch hunt” and “election interference.”

Trump posted on Truth Social Monday evening and said, “D.A. BRAGG JUST ILLEGALLY LEAKED THE 33 points of Indictment. There are no changes or surprises from those he leaked days ago directly out of the Grand Jury. No Crime by Trump. What a MESS. Bragg should resign, NOW!”

Several other Florida Republican members of Congress tweeted support for the former President. Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., tweeted, “FREE DONALD TRUMP.”

Gaetz previously went on Fox News and said the decision by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg to continue “this terrible witch hunt” against Trump is “clearly political” and “frivolous,” adding that it “seems to leave the nation on edge.”

Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., also tweeted support of the former president, calling it a “scary time for our country.”

“By lodging this criminal indictment on President Trump, the NY District Attorney has also singlehandedly shown the American people the obscene perversion that has become our “justice system,” Luna said on Twitter.

Rep. Cory Mills, R-Fla., previously tweeted a photo with President Trump and said “Imagine being the former Speaker of the House and not knowing that in America you’re INNOCENT until proven guilty.”

Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., previously tweeted, “No one is above the law, and everyone has the right to a trial to prove innocence. Hopefully, the former President will peacefully respect the system, which grants him that right.”

Donalds previously said “Today’s political indictment of Former President Trump is a dark day in American history and a threat to our Republic by Alvin Bragg and the Democratic Party machine.”

“It’s unfathomable to me that this could happen in America. This is political persecution that must not stand!” Donalds said.

If convicted, Trump would not be prevented from running for president in 2024.
