EAGLE PASS, Texas – Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., emphasized the urgency and need to combat the President Joe Biden’s administration’s southern border policy during a visit to Texas on Wednesday.

“I’m currently in Eagle Pass, TX witnessing the intentional destruction of our Southern Border by the Biden administration,” Gaetz said on social media.

The Florida congressman described a video he was sent by a Texas official, depicting border patrol agents cutting away fencing to allow for illegal migrants to cross into the United States.

“Under the corrupt orders of @SecMayorkas and Joe Biden, we will never see our border protected. But if this border is not shut down, then we must shut down the government,” he said.

Several other Republican members of congress, including Matt Rosendale from Montana, Bob Good from Virginia, and Andy Biggs and Eli Crane from Arizona joined Gaetz during the border visit.

Rep. Cory Mills: ‘Shut the border, or shut down the government.’

“No more money for this bureaucracy of [Biden’s] government until you’ve brought this border under control,” Biggs said. “Shut the border down or shut the government down.”

The U.S. House Judiciary committee reported in October that there had been over five million illegal migrant encounters since Biden took office in 2021.

Of the encounters nearly half had no confirmed departure from the United States. The Department of Homeland Security reported the release of over 2.1 million additional illegal migrants into the U.S. interior during the same time frame.
