LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Gov. Ron DeSantis’ team took a victory lap, and extended an olive branch, after state-level legal battles drew to a close Wednesday under a new settlement.

The settlement declares Disney’s last-minute agreements with the former Reedy Creek district “null” and “void” – which were a point of contention by DeSantis and the board for effectively strangling the incoming state board’s governing authority over the Walt Disney World area.

A federal case Disney brought against DeSantis also resulted in a loss for the company, which alleged a First Amendment violation for the governor dissolving the company’s self-governing district after Disney vowed to get parental rights legislation repealed.

Some of the other major media narratives included suggesting Florida’s efforts would be struck down in the court, or that outstanding debt would be burdened on surrounding taxpayers. None of that came to fruition.

Here are some of the top media headlines prematurely declaring DeSantis’ and Florida’s defeat and missteps over the past year.
