“I am honored to have so many community leaders willing to help me become their next state representative,” Sapp said in a statement. “I’ll stay focused and work hard to earn every vote, then, hopefully, I’ll be blessed to serve the great State of Florida.”

Cammack is among those notable figures supporting Sapp: the two faced off against each other as the top two frontrunners to become the GOP nominee for Florida’s 3rd Congressional District in 2020. Ultimately, Cammack won the primary by around 5% and went on to win her seat by 15%.

Florida’s State House District 20 includes the areas within Putnam, Clay, Marion and St. Johns County. Currently, Rep. Bobby Payne, R-Palatka, holds the office, but the seat will be open in November.

Waleka Mayor Jamie Watts is also running to represent the district as a Republican.

The only other registered candidate, according to the state, is Andrew Dodge, with no party affiliation.

Sapp also has the backing from Clay County Sheriff Michelle Cook.

He describes himself on social media as a “conservative businessman.”
