PORT CHARLOTTE (FLV) – The Department of Financial Services (DFS) will set up an Initial Payment Center in Port Charlotte following the impact of Hurricane Ian, where insurance companies will be on hand to help locals with the insurance claims process.

Starting Oct. 4, the Charlotte County Initial Payment Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

The Initial Payment Center was established so that policyholders could speak with their insurance companies face-to-face to submit claims and so that the insurance company could send cheques to Floridians who had been affected by Hurricane Ian. Following the storm, insurance companies will concentrate on meeting the immediate requirements of policyholders by offering resources for particular expenses like living costs.

“Policyholders should bring as much documentation as they can, including:

  • A driver’s license or other form of identification (Passport/State issued ID)
  • Insurance cards and insurance policy information/documentation
  • Pictures or documentation of the property being claimed as a loss resulting from Hurricane Ian
  • Any additional insurance-related information that is readily accessible.”
