New Florida bill would create online hub for pregnancy and parenting resources

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Lawmakers this week introduced legislation to create an online hub for pregnancy and parenting resources in the state of Florida.

Sen. Erin Grall, R-Fort Pierce, and Rep. Berny Jacques, R-Seminole filed the legislation.

SB 436, and its House companion, HB 415, establish a platform for pregnant mothers and parents to access “vital information and support,” a press release said.

“We understand the critical need to support Florida’s pregnant women and families across the state, to ensure every child and family has an opportunity to thrive,” Grall said.

“By creating an online hub of available resources, our hope is we will empower individuals with the knowledge and support necessary to navigate the challenges and joys of pregnancy and parenting,” she added.

The legislation will require the Florida Department of Health, the Agency for Health Care Administration, and the Department of Children and Families to build and maintain the website.

“This website will be an invaluable resource for pregnant women and families in Florida,” Jacques said. “By amassing these critical resources and reliable information in one place, we are making it easier for individuals to access the support they need during this important time in their lives.”

The online resources will include “evidence-based information on prenatal care, child development, and parenting techniques.”

It will also provide mental health services for mothers throughout the pregnancy and parenting process.

Additionally, the legislation will aid fathers with educational and mentorship programs that equip them with the “knowledge and skills” needed to raise their children and foster “stronger family bonds.”

The bill comes after the 2023 Legislative Session was filled with “family first” policies such as tax relief and school choice expansion.

Grall also sponsored the six-week abortion ban that was ultimately signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis in April.
