PALM BAY, Fla. – Rep. Randy Fine, R-Melbourne Beach, filed a resolution on Thursday calling for all state and local government agencies to end contact and outreach with the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

HR 1209 discourages agencies such as state universities, school districts and law enforcement from involving themselves with the organization, also known as CAIR.

“As my resolution clearly documents, from its inception, CAIR has been dedicated to hiring, defending, and justifying terrorism,” Fine said in a press release.

“Despite more than a dozen examples of its involvement with terrorism and terrorists, CAIR gaslights as a civil rights organization, and since the October 7th rape, torture, and mutilation of 1,200 Jews by its friends at Hamas, has attempted to justify Islamic terror in the Middle East and across Florida,” he added.

Fine described CAIR as an “American affiliate of Hamas,” as their followers have reportedly engaged in 94 acts of harassment and vandalism in Florida since October 7th, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

“That must end. Just as the Legislature banned the antisemitic activities of Students for Justice in Palestine on our State University campuses in 2019 by passing HB 741, today I take the next step to target another organization fomenting terror and hate across our state – CAIR,” Fine said.

“In Florida, we will give those that support Jew hatred and genocide no tolerance, no quarter, and no sanctuary,” he finished.

Fine is the legislature’s only Jewish Republican. He has pushed through multiple bills meant to protect Jewish communities and individuals, particularly following the Oct. 7, 2023 terrorist attack by Hamas in Israel.

On CAIR’s Florida chapter website, the organization details how they advocate for justice and mutual understanding by combatting discrimination abasing Muslims and Islamophobia.

“Our mission is simple: to defend the civil rights of Florida’s Muslim community and to promote a more just and equitable society for all – join us in this vital work today,” CAIR Florida said.

The organization held a “multi-faith press conference” at the Florida Capitol in November, calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza war and assurance that American tax dollars are not used to fund “genocide.”

The press release related to the event reported that Rep. Angie Nixon, D-Jacksonville, planned to attend the gathering.

Nixon was one of the three “nay” votes on HR 11-C, a resolution by Fine that expressed Florida’s “unwavering support” for Israel in their fight abasing Hamas.

Florida’s Voice reached out to CAIR for comment and will update this story if a response is received.
