WASHINGTON, D.C. – Florida Republican Sen. Rick Scott and Rep. Kat Cammack introduced a resolution in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives supporting in vitro fertilization, or IVF, for Americans looking to start and grow families.

“IVF is a wonderful thing that enables so many Americans struggling with infertility to have children and start a family,” Scott said. “I have friends and family members who have used IVF and so do countless Floridians and Americans.”

According to the resolution, in vitro fertilization is an “assisted reproductive technology developed and used for infertility treatment in adult women.” Since its first successful birth in 1978, IVF has helped produce millions of children worldwide.

In a report from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 1,000,000 children born between 1987 and 2015 in the United States have been conceived using assisted reproductive technologies, including IVF.

Recently, assisted reproductive technologies, including IVF, helped conceive 97,000 children in 2021.

Related to issues in pregnancy, the CDC found one in five women with no prior births were unable to get pregnant after one year of trying to conceive a child. The report also indicated one in four women experience infertility and have difficulty in carrying a pregnancy to term.

Scott listed a number of points in support of IVF to the U.S. Senate, including affirming the desire of parents to try and conceive a child and expressing sympathy for millions going thru infertility.

Furthermore, Scott urged the Senate to “cherish” kids born through IVF and uphold its legality in the United States by affirming laws related to promoting life.

He also called for more clinical research and backed state’s rights to set regulatory actions on health, safety, and ethical standards for medical facilities.

“While IVF remains available in all 50 states, it’s important for us to make clear our unwavering support for current and aspiring parents using IVF to start and grow their families,” Scott said.

“There is nothing more pro-life than helping women start and raise families. IVF has done just that for decades, allowing thousands of American couples to become parents and experience the joys of raising children,” Cammack said.

“While IVF remains available in all 50 states, it’s important for us to make clear our unwavering support for current and aspiring parents using IVF to start and grow their families,” Scott said. “Proud to lead this in the Senate and have @RepKatCammack’s support in the House.”
